The Museum of Coastal Carolina and Ingram Planetarium have some great programs lined up for this spring.
Museum Planetarium:
The Museum of Coastal Carolina is open from 10:00 to 3:00 on Friday and Saturday.
On Fridays at 10:30, the museum hosts its popular Animal Adventures: Stories & Puppet Playtime for Preschoolers program. As a special treat, therapy dogs from Canine Angels will join the program on Apr.3 & 17 and May 1 & 15. After Animal Adventures, children and parents are invited to the museum’s Touch Tank at 11 AM to help docents feed the animals.
Apr. 4 – 10-2 – Family Day – Rain or shine! Enjoy low-cost activities and crafts for kids. Museum admission is FREE for Brunswick County residents with IDs. $2 admission for all others. Co-sponsored by McDonald’s – kids will get a coupon for free McDonald’s French fries.
Apr. 11 – 9-11:30 – Experiencing Bird Island & the Kindred Spirit – Arrive at the museum at 9 AM for an overview and slide show, then drive to nearby Bird Island in Sunset Beach where Jim and Linda Barber will take you on a guided walk to the Kindred Spirit mailbox on Bird Island.
Apr. 14 – 6 PM – The Fort Fisher Hermit Story – This documentary film tells the story of the life and mysterious death of Robert E. Harrill, the man who became known as the Fort Fisher Hermit. Mr. Fred Pickler, an acquaintance of Mr. Harrill’s, will be on hand with some items and stories of interest.
Apr. 17 – 1 PM – The Balancing Act of our Ecosystems – This is the fourth in a series of five lectures that Dr. Richard Hilderman is presenting about our environment.
Apr. 18 – 9:30-11:30 – Carolina Shore Tour – Arrive at the museum at 9:30 for an overview, then walk one block to beautiful Ocean Isle Beach where Sabrina Woofter will take you on a guided beach walk.
Apr. 25 – 6:30-9:30 PM – Wine Fest – The museum will be closed during the day on Apr. 25. Doors open at 6 PM for the annual Wine Fest fundraiser. Join us for an evening of interesting wines, excellent food, live music provided by Teddy Burgh, silent and live auctions, and a cork pull. The live auction features trips to Costa Rica, Napa Valley, and New Orleans, as well as original artwork by local artist Vicki Neilon and Texas artist John Ross Palmer. Wine Fest takes place at the Museum of Coastal Carolina, 21 East Second Street, Ocean Isle Beach. Tickets are $50 per person and are on sale now; to order, call 910-579-1016. Proceeds from this fundraiser benefit the Museum of Coastal Carolina and Ingram Planetarium.
May 2 – 11 AM – Become a Carnivorous Plant Junior Conservationist – Kids: Learn all about NC’s carnivorous plants, then plant your own Venus flytrap and bring it home with you.
May 9 – 11 AM – Mother’s Day Pearl Necklace Activity – Kids: Make a pearl necklace for mom for Mother’s Day.
May 12 – 6 PM – What kind of fish is that, Mister? – Ever wonder how a museum and a planetarium came to be located in Brunswick County? Come to this program and learn the back story of these two great local attractions.
May 15 – 1 PM – Lionfish & Other Invasive Species – Dr. Richard Hilderman concludes his series of five environmentally-themed programs with a discussion of lionfish and other invasive species. See live lionfish in the museum’s Sea Shore Gallery.
May 16 – 11 AM – Sea Turtles & You – Learn all about the life cycle of the sea turtles that nest on our shores every summer.
The Museum of Coastal Carolina’s summer season runs from May 22 through September 7, 2015. During the summer, the museum will be open from 10:00-8:00 on Monday through Thursday, 10:00-5:00 on Friday, and 10:00-1:30 on Saturday.

Ingram Planetarium’s doors open at 11:30 on Friday and Saturday.
New Nano Exhibit
Experience the new Nano Exhibit in the Planetarium’s Paul Dennis Science Hall. The new exhibit consists of several stand-alone interactive multimedia kiosks. Each kiosk demonstrates a way in which nanotechnology impacts our lives. Some of the kiosks include short videos that play on demand in either English or Spanish. Admission to the Science Hall is free.
