As of the 11 am update Hurricane Irene in now a Category 3 storm and is approximately 900 miles south of Brunswick County. Hurricane Irene is starting to turn in a more northwest direction. If this track continues we can expect high surf beginning tonight and rainfall of 0 – 2 inches and tropical storm force winds beginning Friday evening and continuing until midday on Saturday.

The next update from Brunswick County Emergency Services is expected by 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 25th.
All residents and visitors are encouraged to continue emergency preparedness by checking and updating emergency supply kits and evacuation plans and by obtaining Hurricane Re-Entry Passes from Town Hall. Please be advised that once an Evacuation Order is issued Hurricane Re-Entry Passes can no longer be issued. If an evacuation order is issued, please secure your property and leave the area as soon as possible.

Those with special medical or physical needs are encouraged to register with the County’s Special Needs Registry by clicking on the upper right hand corner of the County Emergency Services website.
