Award-winning, island author Bob Adamov has released his 19th mystery adventure novel, Holden’s Promise.
Adamov told us “A Facebook picture post of the Holden Seafood Company building on the Shallotte River triggered an idea for a novel set in the Holden Beach area. After several phone calls and online research, I visited the area for additional research and interviews.” He continued “Everyone, including the Holden Seafood Company owners and the crew of the shrimp trawler Capt. C.L. Holden, warmly responded to my questions.”
“Next was a visit with shipwreck hunter Ralph Wilbanks who discovered the Hunley submarine in Charleston Harbor. The end result is a storyline that balances humor, drama and romance while keeping readers engaged and entertained,” Adamov commented.
As always, Adamov has a penchant for including real-life people as characters in his novels. This one includes Barry, Fran, Corbett and Roddy Holden from Holden Seafood Company on Shallotte Point; Ryan and Rachel Ashley from Sunset Beach, Judy, Chloe and Hannah Harland from Sunset Beach, affable Gary Pope from Islands Art & Books in Ocean Isle Beach and Tal Grissett, Grissettown Longwood fire chief. Adamov’s wife’s maiden name is Grissett, and a visit with Tal resulted with him being in the book.
Adamov’s string of island bestsellers in the popular Emerson Moore series includes: Rainbow’s End, Pierce the Veil, When Rainbows Walk, Promised Land, The Other Side of Hell, Tan Lines, Sandustee, Zenobia, Missing, Golden Torpedo, Chincoteague Calm, Flight, Assateague Dark, Sunset Blues, White Spider Night, a 20th anniversary edition of Rainbow’s End and Sawdust Joint plus Memory Layne.
His writing style has been compared to bestselling authors Clive Cussler and Tom Clancy.
The Story in Brief – Holden’s Promise
Holden Beach to Shallotte to Southport to Ocean Isle Beach
Put-in-Bay investigative reporter Emerson Moore visits Shallotte, North Carolina to relax with an old friend. Little did Moore know that he would be pulled into the intrigue surrounding a suspicious boat offshore the Flounder Pier restaurant in nearby idyllic Holden Beach.
Mixed in the plot are the strange nightly explorations by a retired shrimp trawler captain on the Shallotte River near the Holden Seafood Company plus his longstanding feud with another trawler captain. Toss in a couple unsolved murders, a kidnapping and a sinking boat with two teenagers and you have the ingredients for a compelling adventure.
The family-oriented Holden Beach community finds its peaceful island life upended by the perilous incidences occurring between the Islands Art Gallery in Ocean Isle Beach and a Southport marina. The story is filled with several endearing characters and their multi-faceted relationships with each other.
